Animal Genetics provides buccal swab kits
to our customers as a simple, non-invasive way to obtain DNA
from your dogs.
Prior to sample collection, please make
sure that the dog has not eaten anything for at least an hour.
Otherwise, the sample can be contaminated with food particles
that can inhibit our reactions. Right before you take the
sample, please visually check the dog's mouth to ensure it
is clean and clear of any possible contaminants.
Begin by placing one of the swabs in the
cheek of the dog and twist the swab between the dog's cheek
and gums for about 20-30 seconds. Repeat this with the second
swab provided.
Allow the swabs to air dry, and place them
back into the paper envelope. Make she the envelope is labeled
with the dog's name. Please do not send the swabs back in
a plastic bag; moisture trapped within the bag could lead to bacterial growth on the swabs.
This bacterial growth can degrade the DNA.
Fill out a submission form for each dog
you are submitting DNA from. Mail the completed form along
